The strategic management group
A lack of consistency and perseverance are the two most common reasons why a management team fails to achieve ...
... its goals and the full benefits of its work.
It is, of course, important that a CEO has the judgement to surround himself or herself with the right people, to ensure optimum conditions for wise and effective management.
The prime task of the management team is to balance long-term strategic and short-term operational issues.
To build an effective management team, it is essential to agree on and establish roles, as well as objectives and purpose. In this context, the work of developing approaches and rules is decisive in determining the kind of management team that will emerge and develop.
It is also important that the individual members of the management team find their roles within the team quickly, and decide in their own minds what they can and want to contribute.
The management team is the CEO’s team. He or she always has the casting vote, although the aim should always be to achieve consensus.
A management team with a strategic approach ensures that it is always up to date. This means
- monitoring the market – customers, competitors and the world in which the organisation operates
- having a strong and clear vision and objective
- having clear values
- monitoring the system and the operation the team has been appointed to manage having a transparent and well-analysed internal dialogue, aimed at ensuring soundly based decision-making
- having the ability to prioritise issues, and decide when and how to act.
